District Wide Meal Charging Policy

The Pittsfield Public School Committee approved a district wide Meal Charging Policy (SRV-50) on August 18, 2010. As you know, the cafeteria will not refuse lunch to an elementary age student, however starting September 20, 2010 this policy will take affect in your child's school. If your child has a negative blance of $5.25, which equals 3 lunches, in his/her lunch account, the only choice your child will have is a peanut butter & jelly sandwich lunch (we will make substitutions for any allergies). This substitute lunch will be charged to the student's account at the price of a regular lunch. We do NOT want any child go go without lunch, but need to have students bring their money. A double or second lunch cannot be charged. We are asking that you pay in full the balance you owe. If this is not possible, please contact the Food Service Office to work out a payment plan that will resolve the outstanding balance. Free/reduced lunch applications are available at all schools or by calling the food service office at 448.9608. Applications are accepted all year long. To view the meal charging policy go to www.pittsfield.net and click on Lunch Menus under Family and Community.
