Invasive Species Presentation

Samantha Brady, from the Mass. Dept. of Agricultural Resources will be presenting at Taconic on the impact the Asian Longhorned Beetle (ALB) and the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) are having on the state of Massachusetts. She will be here next week, on November 15th at 12:30. The presentation will likely take place in the auditorium and can extend for 90 minutes if your classes are available during both 6 and 7th periods.

Samantha asks that our students help to disseminate information on the impacts of these beetles and pay-it-forward to other students in some capacity. My honors students will be putting together presentations for my other biology classes. They will be presenting her PowerPoints or creating posters. Our SEA students could also tie this into a service learning community project and present to neighboring elementary schools.

Latin Club

On Saturday, 10 Latin Club students traveled to Mount Greylock High School to compete in the Massachusetts Junior Classical League Kickoff Event. To my knowledge, this is the first time Taconic students have participated in Junior Classical League, a state and national organization which encourages academic excellence, competition, and community service for Latin students. Schools from across the state came to the competition. The kickoff event included certamen (Latin quiz team) and catapult and ballista competitions.

I am pleased to report that Taconic earned first place in the miniature catapult competition. Our miniature catapult launched a marshmallow 111 feet!

The following students participated and had a great time - Lucas Benjamin, Steve Davila, John Buckley, Veronica Beaupre, Nar Lin, Keiana West, Robert Mottley, Kim Kirchner, Makenzi Astore, and Carly Borelli.
