Williams College Math Camp

The Williams College Math Camp (WCMC) is a free, one-week residential math camp for 18 mathematically gifted high school students who have completed or are currently enrolled in Algebra 2 or its equivalent. Students will be exposed to several different areas of mathematics through colloquia and other activities, but the primary focus of the camp will be Number Theory & The Art of Mathematical Thinking. Students will learn to explore the theory of numbers by asking thoughtful questions, working out examples, looking for patterns, making conjectures, and finally, proving their results.

The 2013 Camp will take place from July 8 – July 12, 2013. Participants will be provided with free room and board, but are responsible for their own transportation to and from Williams College.

WCMC is funded by the Dolciani Foundation, through the Mathematical Association of America, and Williams College.

Congratulations to Amanda Wyman who was awarded a certificate of advance participation in science for her physics presentation on worm holes

The Physical Education is looking for 20 students to dance at third Thursday, May 16th. Please see Mrs. Hoag after school in the Fitness Center to sign up.

There will be a homeroom rep meeting in the library today for all Homeroom reps.

Egremont School is looking for students to volunteer to tutor 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. The program will run Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3:15-4:00. You can volunteer one day or all three. Build your resume or just feel good about giving back to your community. If interested please sign up with Ms. Dolan in guidance.

The Citizens' Scholarship applications are now available. This scholarship is open to all seniors. Pick up applications in the Guidance Office.Please remember to return the completed applications to Ms. Valenti in Guidance by April 11TH.

Unit 6 Physical Education Absences need to be made up by March 28th on Monday and Wednesday 2:25 to 3:00 in the fitness center.

URGENT!!! All girls’ Physical Education lockers need to be cleaned out Wednesday, March 20th by 2:20PM. The locker room will NOT be opened again until all work is complete. Students are to wear sneakers to class.

All boys trying out for the track team must have give their forms to Coach Albano before the start of practice on Monday.
Practice starts at 3pm and ends at 5pm. The team will meet outside of the boys locker room.

In sports yesterday: Girls basketball – Courtney McLaughlin scored a game high 26 points in a win over Monument Mountain63 -39

Most sporting events for the weekend are either cancelled or postponed. The hockey game between the Pittsfield teams vs St. Joseph’s at the Boy’s and Girls club remains on schedule with an 8:30 PM start time.

This will be a two-day audition, with vocal performance on Tuesday and dance on Wednesday. All students interested in trying out for this enormously popular 50s musical are welcome. The PeaceJam club awards a PHS Peace Prize annually to two students from each grade based on teacher and Peacejam nominations. The following students have won this year's PHS Peace Prize:

Attention Seniors: Any senior who wishes to attend the senior class trip on Wednesday June 5th must make a reservation with Mrs. Allen by Friday January 11th in Room 208. Those with reservations must have all their dues through junior year paid. All payments must be made to Mrs. Allen before January 25th. Reservations must CLOSE January 10th.

Any JUNIOR BOY who would like to be considered for Boys State held at Stonehill College, in Easton, MA from June 15th - 21st 2013 sign up in the Guidance office before January 31st.

The American Legion Auxiliary is sponsoring The GIRLS STATE Conference open to High School Juniors who have an interest in government and current events, have a high moral character and strong leadership qualities. The Conference will be held at Stonehill College June 15th through June 21st 2013.

The PLATO credit recovery, after school program, will start today right after school from 2:30-5:30pm in room 333. Please be on time!

Attention Seniors: The Returning Grad Program which is a panel of seniors coming back from the Class of 2012 will be in the library from 9:25 - 10:14 A.M. for a Question and Answer program discussing the First Year of College. Tickets for Proteus’ fall production of “Rumors” will be on sale in the main office and outside the cafeteria. Tickets are $8 for students and $10 for adults. If you have any questions, please see Mr. Slocum in room 102.

“All PHS student are invited to participate in the Above the Influence Activity. Starting this Monday and ending on December 17, we are accepting your personally made designs inserted in the ATI logo.

ATI is a campaign to raise awareness on being ABOVE negative peer influences, such as cyber-bullying, smoking, and gossip.

All who submit a design will be entered to win one of 12 gift cards. Blank Logos will be available at the front office.”

Financial Aid Night will be held on Thursday, December 6th . The program will begin at 6:30 in the PHS auditorium. Financial Aid forms will be discussed in detail, including the FAFSA and CSS Profile. Please invite your families.

Students will be on hand to show you how to make a fast, healthy and inexpensive meal.
Students will show you some and easy stretching moves that you can do to increase flexibility.
Students will demonstrate techniques for hair, nail, and skin care.

There will be a raffle for attendees and a special raffle for Pittsfield High School Parents that attend.
