    Transportation

    From the Principal...

Tonight a Connect-Ed call went home for Car Line Parents who aren't following the Car Line rules. If your child goes home in a car you are to be in the car line that extends down Connecticut Avenue with no exceptions. There shouldn't be any parents/guardians waiting at the front door at the end of the school day. The Car Line moves very quickly and safely. Parents are parking up the street and waiting at the front door to walk their child to the car to then drive home. Those parents/guardians doing so should be in the car line that extends down Connecticut Avenue. We are in a far better place than many other elementary schools with the space we have available for our car line. There is no reason why everyone can't be in that line to pick up their child in car line.

We have a great routine/system in place that has been crafted to be as efficient and safe as possible. Please do not be offended if you are asked to join the Connecticut Ave. car line like everyone else, it is for the benefit of our students.

    Thank you,

    Carl Ameen

Helpful Information for the 2011-2012 School Year

    Parking Lot

The parking lot should NEVER be used to drop off your children in the morning or for pickup in the afternoon.

It is too dangerous. Please help us keep safety of all students a top priority by never using the parking lot to

drop off or pick up your child(ren).

    Drop Off:

No child should be dropped off before 8:30 unless he/she is attending breakfast which begins at 8:20. Car

students should be dropped off in front of the building within the semi-circle. Please do not drop students off

in the parking lot. ALL students should be traveling to the kindergarten end of the building and around back

to their designated spots. The only exception to this rule is for Connecticut Ave. walkers and those who

attend breakfast, they are permitted to walk through the basketball court and to the back of the building. If

daycare is an issue you can contact Earl Persip at the Pittsfield Family YMCA which has a before and after

school program housed at Allendale. For information and pricing of such services please call 413-499-7650.

Bus students are dropped off in front of the building in the semicircle in the morning and picked up by the kindergarten end of the building on the street. In the morning once exiting the bus they will walk to the back of the building to their designated area around the

    kindergarten end.

    Car Line Pickup:

If you are going to be picking up your child at the end of each day you must park down Connecticut Ave.

leading up to the top of our driveway. We have crafted a car pickup routine that is both safe and very swift.

One major help that you could provide us is somewhere visible to our staff in your car please have a sign

with your child"s name in big letters. Each month we have the same staff members responsible for car line

children and they will not memorize every child's name and car his/her parent/guardian drives. Being able

to call a child"s name is less confusing than calling out some random car and its features.

    Please do not:

    - Park on the street and walk to the front of the building to walk your child to your car. The car line is

meant for children who have cars that will be driving to the front of the building. This slows the car line

down and creates an unsafe situation for our students. Please wait in line on Connecticut Ave. and drive

to the front of the building if you come to school in a car at dismissal time.

    School Handbook

Within the first few days of school, your child will be bringing home our Allendale School handbook. You

will be asked to sign off on a form stating that you have received the handbook. It is expected that you will

make yourself familiar with our school rules. Our handbook was created with the help of school staff,

    parents, and our School Council.

    Volunteering

Volunteering is a fantastic experience. If you plan on volunteering in the future, you must have a CORI

check before you will be permitted to volunteer at Allendale School.
