    5/23/13

A Connect-Ed call is coming home tonight regarding the following info:

    1. Tomorrow is a half day it's also crazy hair day. Dismissal is at 11:35.

    2. Dental program will be at Allendale on the 28th, 29th, and 31st for those students who were signed up for it.

    5/13/13

Thank you all very much for your patience and cooperation today at dismissal. The city is replacing the sidewalk in front of the school and this caused for a car line delay today.

Until further notice, buses will be dropping off students in the morning in our semi-circle driveway in front of the building as well as picking them up there at the end of the school day. I guarantee delays for car line parents so please bear with us as we navigate through all of this. Dalton Ave. walkers will be walked down the street by staff members. Parents who were able to come and meet your student today, I thank you, and if you're able to do that again for the rest of this week that would be very helpful.

I will be touching base with the city workers tomorrow morning to see how much longer this will last.

When all is said and done we will have a beautiful new sidewalk installed!

There is a Connect-Ed message going home tonight speaking to these points as well.

    Connect-Ed message coming home tonight:

Reminder that Yankee Candle fundraiser money and orders are due tomorrow April 3rd.

    3/24/2013

    Connect-Ed Message went home tonight:

By now you have received the Yankee Candle fundraiser, which is our final fundraiser for this year. The PTO is working hard to become a non-profit organization, and until then we are technically supposed to include sales tax on fundraisers if asked to do so by the fundraising company. We would therefore greatly appreciate it if you would add sales tax on this fundraiser. There will be communication coming home with your children next week to clarify further. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Brooke or Lisa at pto.allendale@gmail.com. The PTO thanks you for your continued support!

MCAS is starting tomorrow in 4th grade. It is the long composition test and it is extremely important that al 4th graders are in school tomorrow. The state gives us one day to take this portion of the test with only 1 specific makeup day.

    3/21/2013

Connect Ed message coming home tonight:

Tomorrow (3/22/13) is NOT a half day.

    3/18/2013

A Connect-Ed message is coming home tonight for 5th grade parents:

    1. Please submit your candid photos for the yearbook. We thank the few parents that have submitted them but we need more pictures
to make the yearbook a success.
    2. Please support the yearbook and your child by submitting a personal note of congratulations. This is a great way to acknowledge your graduate and will allow the 5th grade students to get a free yearbook. The final date to submit photos and ads is March 15th.

    2/28/13

A Connect-Ed message will be coming home this Sunday at 5:45 with the following info:

    2/27/13

A Connect-Ed message will be coming home tonight (2/27/13):

    1. The registration deadline for the ice skate/swim night is tomorrow. If you need a registration form you can get it off of our school website by scrolling down on the main page. Cost is $5 per family. Please remember that you can only choose 1 activity per child. A single child cannot both swim and then ice skate.

    2. Please do not have flowers/balloons sent to school on your child's birthday. It is a distraction to the classroom and learning. I do announce birthdays of students every morning during morning announcements for all to hear. Please celebrate outside of school.

    2/14/13

    2. 5th grade parents. Please make sure you return forms and submit a picture of your child for the 5th grade yearbook. The yearbook committee will be using the fall pictures for the class individual photo section of the yearbook, so that is all set. If you wish to submit candid photos of your child for the yearbook which will appear in a special section you are welcome to do so. The most important part is making sure you sign the photo release or else your child will not appear in the yearbook.

    3. This Friday February 15th is a half day with dismissal at 11:35.

Thank you and have a good evening

    2/6/2013

If your child is in car line and you are needing to pick up bulbs please do not park in the car line and enter the building to get them. Please wait till the car line is over.

    1/25/2013

Today all grades practiced what to do in the cafeteria if we ever had to have a lockdown. Students did a great job following directions and being patient as we practiced several times. We will be practicing this and other drills on a regular basis so that students know exactly what to do should an actual lockdown take place.

    1/2/2013

A Connect-Ed message will be sent home tonight at 6:00 p.m. regarding the following:

    1. December Reading Calendars are due this Friday 1/4/2013

    2. Please e-mail Principal Ameen at: cameen@pittsfield.net if you'd like to be added to the "Allendale Community" email list. This helps us save paper and expensive copier ink by emailing Mustang Messengers and other notices.

    12/16/2012

Another Connect-Ed message was sent home tonight around 5:00 p.m. stating that:

Until further notice, bus and Dalton Ave. walker students will enter the main entrance of the school. Bus students will still be dropped off in the morning at the same spot but will then walk to the main entrance and enter there.

YMCA students will still be allowed to be dropped off on the side of the building where they will enter through the cafeteria door which will be controlled by YMCA staff. Please review this with your child so that he/she knows how to get into the building tomorrow.

    12/15/2012

The following Connect-Ed call was made today at 2:00 p.m.

I wanted to take this opportunity to express how heartbroken we all are at Allendale School for the senseless and tragic event that took place yesterday in Connecticut. I have contacted my staff members in preparation for Monday. We will have our school psychologist at Allendale to assist with any students who may be scared and need someone to talk to about this tragedy. I have instructed my staff to go about our school day while being available to discuss with students any concerns they may have about safety.

We spend a lot of time and effort fine tuning our safety procedures and practicing safety drills each year. However, I am planning to sit down with staff members to review our plan and see where we can improve building safety for all. The message that will be delivered to your children on Monday and days to follow will be that they are safe at Allendale School. Please do not hesitate to contact the school with any concerns regarding this or any situation. I can't stress enough how much your children mean to us at Allendale School. We will do everything we can to have procedures in place to make them feel safe everyday.

On a side note, please visit the following websites to assist with speaking with your children at home should they have concerns or questions:

    http://www.pbs.org/parents/talkingwithkids/news/talking.html

    12/4/2012

Those of you who may be new to the holiday bazaar, it's a little store where the PTO and parents donate items that are new or slightly used that students can buy for their family members for the holiday season. Everything is priced very low so students can buy gifts. The PTO is still taking donations of items that can be sold at the bazaar. If you're willing to donate please send in your item(s) as soon as possible.

    9/13/2012

Coming home this weekend is the first reading challenge calendar of the school year. Your September calendar is on its way along with a letter from me and the book summary sheet that your child must fill out in order to qualify for prizes. It is the expectation that each child read the equivalent of 15 minutes per weekend and vacation day. If there are 4 days on the calendar the total goal would be at least 60 minutes for that month. Times get busy and you may not be able to get the 15 minutes in exactly on each day. That is why it can be spread out among the days on the calendar, as long as you hit the total number of minutes required to qualify for prizes. The calendar, book summary sheets, and introductory letter will soon be available under the "School Year Reading Challenge" section under the "News Items" category on this webpage.

    9/7/2012

Confused as to when your child is allowed to enter the building? Please take a look at the "School Arrival Procedures" section under the "Allendale Info" menu to the right. Or just click the following to download:

This program is primarily for children who do not have a dentist.

The dental services include an exam from a dentist, a sealant program for second and third grades, along with visits from the certified dental assistant.

If you have previously filled out a dental consent form, your child will continue in the school dental program. If you do not want your child to continue, please write your child’s name, check no, sign and return to school.

    #2

Vision and Hearing Screenings will be taking place from September 10th-September 21st. Please be sure that your child wears his or her glasses to school if he/she has a prescription to do so for the sight testing.

Thank you very much and have a wonderful evening

The following is the Connect-Ed Message that went out today 9/2/2012

    Good afternoon Allendale Community,

This is Carl Ameen, Principal of Allendale School calling with some important information for the start of the school year. This will also appear on the main page of our website.

    1. September 4th and 5th are half days and dismissal is at 11:35. September 4th is for 1-5th grade students only. Kindergarten students start on September 5th. However, there will be a K orientation on the 4th at 9:30.

    2. Please be sure to send in a note with your child letting his/her teacher know exactly how they are getting home.

    3. Our Summer Reading Challenge Calendars are due this Friday 9/7 along with the book summary that is to be done.

    4. On September 7th starting at 5:30 p.m. we will be having a Playground Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. There will be food and music for all to celebrate the official opening of Allendale School's new playground. Rain date is 9/14 at the same time.

    5. Finally, on September 4th for car line drop off, we will be following the same routine as last year. Cars will wait on Connecticut Ave until waved down by an Allendale staff member. The lead car should pull all the way up to the large bright orange cone, following cars should follow, at all time we should be able to have at least 6-7 cars unloading children at the front of the building and entering the main entrance. There will be plenty of staff members on hand during the first couple of weeks to ensure that students know exactly where they're going.

Finally, there have been some last minute staff changes and some students might not have the homeroom teacher they were initially notified earlier in the summer. The largest changes are that in most cases, those students who were to have Mrs. McDermott for homeroom in 4th grade now have Ms. Larrow in fourth grade and those who had Ms. Larrow in 2nd grade will now have Ms. Tatro in 2nd grade. Those 4th graders who were told they would be having Mrs. Dapson in 4th grade will be having Ms. Demastrie.

Again, this is true in most cases and there will be staff readily available to assist students in the lobby during the first 2 weeks of school.

The entire Allendale School staff is very excited to welcome you back to the 2012-2013 school year.

Thank you and enjoy the rest of your long weekend!

    Good evening Allendale School Parent/Guardians,

This is the principal of Allendale School Carl Ameen calling to remind you all that there is no school this Friday April 6th. Since we have a short week, March reading challenge calendars will need to be turned in this Thursday. Any calendars turned in after this Thursday will not be honored.

Car line parents I have received a few calls from neighbors regarding blocking driveways during afternoon car line time. Please give a look when in line to make sure that you aren't blocking any of our neighbors' driveways.

Thank you and have an excellent evening.

There will be a Connect-Ed call going home tonight correcting my mistake regarding when the Spring Fundraiser is over. The fundraiser will end on April 5th, not the 15th. Sorry for any confusion.

Please note that 3/23 is a half day of school. In the Mustang Messenger that was sent home on 3/5 only 3/9 is listed as a half day. Half day dismissal is at 11:35.

The following is the message from the Connect Ed call that made at 6:15 p.m.:

    Happy New Year Allendale Community,

This is Carl Ameen calling to remind you of our new morning routine starting tomorrow.

Please remember that Connecticut Avenue walkers and car line students will enter the building through the front door.

Bus students and Dalton Avenue walkers will enter the double doors by the science room (there will be a cone outside of this entrance for easy access.)

Parents who walk their students to school are to say goodbye at this entrance and not enter the building. Any parent with official school business should enter through the main entrance.

Car line parents will be waved to begin down the driveway by an adult with the red traffic stick to begin dropping off students a few minutes before 8:30. Car line students will enter through the main entrance and line up outside of their classrooms in the building where staff will be supervising them.

After dropping off your child, only left hand turns are permitted when leaving the semi-circle.

I want to thank you in advance for bearing with me as we adjust to this new routine and making school safer for all of our students. Please feel free to email me or call with feedback as we embark on a new and safer morning routine.

    Happy New Year.

Happy December! By this Friday 12/9, expect to see the new morning routine details coming home with your child. The same packet will be posted here on the website as well. After meeting with the PTO, School Council, and staff members the plan is in its final stages and just about ready to go public. So please be on the lookout that information. This plan will eliminate double parking down Connecticut Ave. as well as parking on side streets causing a very congested and unsafe street for students to cross as well as other vehicles to access for emergencies etc.

Happy November! It's hard to believe another month has come and gone. I have been very carefully studying the amount of unexcused tardies that occur each month. Unexcused basically means that a child comes to school late without a reason. I address this further in the November Mustang Messenger, which will be coming home today 11/1/11. Please give it a read and make sure you have sent in the Parent/Teacher Conference appointment papers for your child.

Welcome to the Allendale School webpage. I will post messages here from time to time. I would like to start off the year with two requests.

    1. Please don't block any neighborhood driveways when dropping off your child in the morning. I have told neighbors who have called me about this issue that they should take license plate numbers and call the police if it continues. Just think if that's the kind of lesson you want to teach your child. Please be courteous of our neighbors' driveways, like you they are hardworking individuals who need to get where they need to be in the morning just as much as you and I.

    2. Although I understand the thinking in walking the dog as you walk to school with your child in the morning, killing two birds with one stone, please leave the dog at home. This morning we had 4 dogs out back. We have students who are afraid of dogs, they cause students to run out of their class lines, and we have some allergies as well. Most importantly we don't know the dog and can't guarantee that it won't bite a student. So please don't bring dogs to school in the morning. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

You should be receiving the first Mustang Messenger today. It is also in pdf format under the "News Items" section to the right of this page.
