In an effort to offer supplemental classroom activities that can also be accessed from home, the Pittsfield Adult Learning Center has begun using the online Skills Tutor Software program. Any student with internet access can use this application outside of school and the results of their work can be monitored by their teacher. There are lessons available in every subject and at all learning levels.

The 2011-2012 school year has begun! Many classes are full, but there is space available in some classes. If a class time is full that you are interested in, you can be put on a waiting list for that class. If you are interested in registering, please contact the counselor at (413) 499- 9530.

Here at the Adult Learning Center, we have been working to institute an instructional focus that helps students to better understand their learning style. We are exploring different theories about how adults learn. Our focus is to help students understand what type of presentation works best for them when learning something new such as visually, auditorily, or kinestheticaly. In addition, we are encouraging students to think about healthy habits associated with learning and study skills such as maintaining a balanced diet, getting enough rest, studying at the same time each day, and through learning information in small chunks rather than cram sessions. Once an understanding of the elements of learning is achieved, the student is better equipped to embark upon the learning process.
