THE REID PTA DOWNTOWN DINNER & MOVIE RAFFLE STARTS:
MONDAY MARCH 26TH!!
This raffle gives people 3 chances to win 2 movies tickets to the Beacon Cinema coupled with either a gift certificate to The MarketPlace, Flavours or Baba Louies. Each student has been given a booklet of 5 raffle tickets. Each ticket costs $1.00. The students must complete the ticket stub information (i.e. Name, Address, Phone Number of person purchasing the ticket along with the student’s name and home room teacher). Students must turn in the correct amount of money with their ticket stubs in order for them to be put into the drawing.
The profits from this fundraiser go directly to programs within Reid Middle School. In the past, the PTA helped to purchase new equipment for the auditorium, books for the library, supplies for the 7th Grade Science Fair, the Lego Robotics Challenge and busses for 8th grade end of year activities and 8th grade yearbooks. Please do what you can to join the effort in making Reid Middle School a great educational and experience for all our children.
All ticket stubs and money must be turned in Friday April 13th. The winner will be drawn on Friday April 27th.
Each student that sells all 5 of their initial raffle tickets will earn an extra recess. Top sellers for each grade will also receive a $10.00 gift certificate to Krispy Kone.

Pittsfield Prevention Partnership presents S.A.Y. It Proud Awards to six Pittsfield teens at the Youth Performance Showcase, Barrington Stage Co, March 3rd at 7 pm.S.A.Y. (Supporting and Acknowledging Youth) It Proud, is a campaign to recognize young people who are involved in positive activities and making good choices. The Pittsfield Prevention Partnership believes that our community values the good choices our teens make and how hard our teens work. By recognizing the achievements of our youth, we help to create the kind of healthy and positive community that prevents kids from turning to substance use.
The Awards will be presented at the Youth Performance Showcase, a talent show highlighting Berkshire County’s enormously talented singing and dancing young people. Tickets can be purchased at the door.
The six award recipients are:
1. Sheila Atiemo: Nominated by Kari Dupuis, Guidance Counselor at Herberg Middle SChool. Sheila is an active member of the Youth Alive team. She demonstrates her leadership skills by focusing her efforts on tutoring fellow students and serving as a member of the Student Council.
2. Olivia Bordeau: Nominated by Marie Ruel at Gladys Allen Brigham Community Center. Olivia has demonstrated both leadership and initiative through her volunteer involvement. She is a wonderful role model to other children at the Brigham Center.
3. Casey Hopkins: Nominated by Jason Cuyler, a Pittsfield Prevention Partnership steering committee member. Casey is a very focused young woman, committed to her schoolwork and avoiding negative social pressures. Her involvement with various activities aimed at reducing youth substance use has been beneficial to the community.
4. Emery Korte: Nominated by Kari Dupuis, Guidance Counselor at Herberg Middle School. Emery is a dedicated student as well as an active member of his community. He enjoys spending time at his local Boys and Girls Club when he is not challenging himself with schoolwork and extracurricular activities.
5. Alyssa LePage-Montgomery: Nominated by Patrick Bucier. Alyssa enjoys helping others, and goes out of her way to do so. She is an active member of her community and is involved with many different organizations including St. Stephen’s Church.

This year's Green in The Middle woodworking project will be new “Lost and Found” clothing boxes for schools in Pittsfield, including Reid.
Students will follow a blueprint and manufacture the boxes using power tools.

Congratulations to the Reid Penguins who soared into first place in the Middle School Bowling League this past week!
In the boys group Brandon Gunlach lead the league with a two game series of 375! He was followed by Chris Kordana, Chris Paro and Reece Gillette.
In the girls group, Emma Chapin led the girls with her two game series of 199! other top girl bowlers were Elizabeth Babcock, Kylie Duffy and Katelyn Duffy.
Only two more weeks until our first season ends so come out and watch your fellow students bowl their hearts out!
Reid announces student and faculty activities to call attention to National No Name Calling Day.

Wednesday, Jan. 25th - Students are encouraged to wear black.
10:30 a. m - 12:15 p.m. - Students will be invited to sign banners taking a pledge to stand up against bullying and name calling. Student council members will be conducting student interviews.

Here are last week's bowling highlights:
Reid Penguins, made up of ace bowlers - Emma Chapin, Reece Gillette, Chris Kordana and Lynsey Aldam, are in second place behind Nessacus and Herberg's tie for first. In third place are the Reid Red Sox.
Top averages for the season go to: Brandon Gunlach with a 180! Followed by Chris Kordana and Reece Gillette.
For the girls, high averages go to: Lynsey Aldam with a 114! followed by Katelyn Duffy, Elizabeth Babcock, Kylie Duffy and Destani Young.
There will be bowling this Friday and next Friday during the Holiday break. Come out and watch or come out and bowl for $5.00.

For the second week of bowling, we have a two way tie for first place. The Reid Penguins and the Reid Red Sox are tied for that coveted position.

Brandon Gunlach with a whopping 227 followed by Richie Garwood and Chris Kordana

If you like to bowl, then this is for you! Ken's Bowl is forming a Middle School Bowling League. The middle schools in central Berkshire county are forming teams and they will be competing on Friday afternoons from 4-6 pm beginning Friday, December 2nd. Each school can have more than one team. Get together with three of your friends (that's a four person team) and get your list to Mrs. Helde in 101 before December 2nd. Cost is $5 per person, per week. There will be an information meeting on Tuesday, December 6th in Mrs. Helde's room, 101.
